Lily Surprise

This beautiful bright pink lily took me by surprise as I went out to water my front flower pots yesterday. It had grown out of a bulb that I planted a couple of years ago in the ground next to the step and was resting on one of my pots. This is the bulb's first blooming. Wowzer!

Salt Lake Temple in BW

Castle-like in black and white. I can see why it took 40 years for this to be built.

Salt Lake Temple

It was a beautiful day to be downtown and take a picture of the temple.

Peek-a-Boo

Another doe tonight, on another part of the trail. I came to an area that was so peaceful and secluded, that I stopped walking for a moment and was still. I could feel her looking at me before I saw her.

Deer Friend's Boyfriend

Yep, she was with this big guy tonight on the mountain, although, she was too shy to pose with him.

Deer Friend

My deer friend and I had a bit of a stare down as I came upon her hiking yesterday. I was on my favorite Elephant Rock trail and heard some movement in the woods off to the side of the trail. I looked over and she spotted me at the same time I saw her. I walked off the trail a little closer to her and she didn't take her eyes off of me as I snapped away with my camera. I think she was as curious of me as I was of her. When I got brave and tried to move in a little closer, she bounded away. I hope to see my deer friend again on the trail.

Delicate Beauty

An evening hike up Holbrook Canyon. These delicate little flowers were here and there, just waiting to be photographed. Lovely. Love the soft colors and lighting.

Sundown

I took this photo this evening as I was coming down the mountain trail. I was a bit crazy to go hiking in the first place, because the dark clouds were a sure indicator of rain. I was surely in denial, or maybe just optimistic. Yes, eventually the sky rained on me, but not too much. And that actually made the hike even more fun, except that this is the one time that I didn't take my camera case with me. So I had to wrap my camera up in my shirt to keep it from getting wet. I took this photo at a spot on the trail where it is clear of the big pines and you can look out over the valley and see the city and the Great Salt Lake. As I was passing by, these tall stalks of grass waving around caught my eye and I looked back at them and saw the setting sun shining through, and out came my camera. I bumped up the exposure and shot right into the sun. This is practically SOOC (straight out of the camera) with just some minor enhancements and cropping. Love it when a shot like that happens.
